Colorado Government Jobs for Political Science Teachers

If you're looking for Colorado government jobs, but don't want to serve as an appointed or elected official, you may want to consider becoming a political science teacher.

Political science teachers usually work for the local, state or federal government to teach students about the government. They typically work in colleges, universities, or other higher-education institutions to teach students about political science, internal affairs, and international relations.

Most employers require political science teachers to have a doctoral degree, although some will accept a master's degree or some post-doctoral training. The educational services industry was responsible for employing 99.5 percent of political science teachers during 2009.

Employment throughout Colorado is expected to increase from 209 workers during 2008 to 260 workers by 2018, accounting for 51 additional jobs and an average annual growth rate of 2.2 percent, according to the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment.

During 2009, the average wage for political science teachers in Colorado was $59,366 per year, while the average entry-level wage was $41,131 per year and the average experienced-level wage was $81,956 per year.

Some related occupations include: chief executives; elementary and secondary school education administrators; sociologists; anthropologists; historians; clergy; kindergarten teachers; elementary school teachers; and instructional coordinators.
